Descripteurs : AK2 - EMG

Digitized single samples of EMG's from human first dorsal interosseous muscles were converted by a fast Fourier transform and submitted to a factor analysis. Factor analysis extracted a factor pattern of the Fourier represented EMG, similar to theoretical absoluted Fourier transforms. The first two extracted factor patterns had prominent peaks at 187 Hz and 125 Hz, respectively, suggesting perhaps a representation of motor unit action potential durations of 5.3 ms and 8 ms. Using averaging of the means at maximum contraction value, we revealed a representation of specific frequency shifts. We interpret these frequency shifts in the factor patterns as evidence that supports the adaptability of the motorneurons in the pool and their ability to utilize increased firing rate at higher contraction values to achieve a preprogrammed activity.
