We studied mechanically evoked Achilles tendon reflexes (T-reflex) with various electrode derivations in 21 extremities in 12 normal subjects. Using a referential derivation with an indifferent electrode at the wrist, the T-reflex was recorded not only with an active electrode over the muscle belly but also over the foot. The conventional T-reflex recorded bipolarly over the muscle varied in waveform and amplitude depending upon placement of the recording electrodes.
