The author compared the use of surface and needle electrodes in the study of motor and sensory nerve conduction velocity and of the features of motor evoked responses and sensory nerve action potentials. The procedures were carried out on the ulnar and median nerves of healthy probands. The values obtained by both methods were within the same range as those given by others. He concluded the use of the surface recording electrodes to be advantageous compared with the needle electrodes in the clinical practice.
