The quantitative measurement of urinary incontinence in elderly inpatients presents a complex problem of clinical assessment. The characteristics of incontinence data in chronic care patients include incontinence episodes, volume of urine loss, and time of events.
The objective of an incontinence data management system was the integration of incontinence characteristics with the information sequence from the data source to develop an interactive filing system that will allow useful output presentations of data. A microcomputer-based incontinence data management system is described which was develop from commercially available software as a specific software application for incontinence information management in elderly chronic care inpatients. Data management requirements of data recording, quality control, report formats, and statistical analysis interfacing can be accomplished using microcomputer products.
