Gait in cerebral palsy

The gait dysfunction observed in children and adults with cerebral palsy are consequences of impairments of motor control, abnormal tone and postural control, and associated musculoskeletal deformities. Functionally, these impairments compromise stability in stance and clearance in swing and increase the energy cost of walking. Sets of typical gait dysfunction have been described for individuals with spastic diplegia, hemiplegia, and quadriplegia and individuals with ataxia or athetosis.
