Among cardiovascular diseases, the chronic arterail occlusion must be seen as a typical illness of affluence, the incidence of which has increased all over the world during the last decades. While, a few generations ago, most leg amputations were necessitated by trauma of tumors, today up to 90 percent of the amputations are carried out because of a chronic arterial occlusion
