Electrotherapy is an effective modality for wound management. Studies show electric stimulation increases circulation and inhibits growth. The skin has electrical properties that require wound hydration for proper functioning. High-voltage pulsed current also may be used for edema reduction. Despite a growing body of controlled research on electrotherapy's benefits for wound care, increased local blood flow is the only FDA approved indication for its use on wounds.
