Excellent respiratory assessment and support are necessary to maintain quality of life, extend duration of survival, and avoid emergency situations for individuals with DMD. A program of assessment and intervention
at appropriate points during the progression of the disease has been outlined and should help standardize respiratory management across centers. More work needs to be done to ensure that all individuals with DMD have access to proper ongoing assessment and the full range of respiratory support methods.
